Basic Disciplines of the Christian Life<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

                                      <\/o:p><\/p>\n

Disciplemakers must teach new believers to pursue the three basic disciplines<\/i><\/b> of the Christian life. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

·      <\/span><\/span><\/span>Daily focus on the Word of God <\/i><\/o:p><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

·      <\/span><\/span><\/span>Daily communion with God through prayer <\/i><\/o:p><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

·      <\/span><\/span><\/span>Regular fellowship<\/i> <\/b>with godly Christians  <\/o:p><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

These basic disciplines<\/i><\/b> are vital <\/i><\/b>and necessary<\/i><\/b> for effective, productive Christian living that fulfills our chief end of glorifying God and enjoying Him forever.  They are basic<\/i> <\/b>because they are God’s ordained fundamentals for nurturing our relationship with Him and His people in the Church.  They are disciplines<\/i> <\/b>because they require deliberate, active pursuit with the intent of forming enduring habits.  They are vital<\/i> <\/b>because they release the life-giving sap of the True Vine, Jesus Christ which flows through us to others.  They are necessary<\/i><\/b> because they are the essential nutrients for new creations in Christ.  The new life we’ve been given grows strong on the spiritually rich milk of God’s Word, is enriched through communion with the Father, through the Son, by the Holy Spirit in prayer, and produces effective, God-honoring service in His family the church. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Matthew 4:4:<\/span><\/i><\/b>  But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God<\/b>.’” <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

John 8:31-32:<\/span><\/i><\/b>  31<\/sup>So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine<\/b>; 32<\/sup>and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”  <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Philippians 4:6-7:<\/span><\/i><\/b>  6<\/sup>Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God<\/b>.  7<\/sup>And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Psalm 5:1-3:<\/span><\/i><\/b>  1<\/sup>Give ear to my words, O Lord<\/span>, Consider my groaning.  2<\/sup>Heed the sound of my cry for help, my King and my God, For to You I pray<\/b>.  3<\/sup>In the morning, O Lord<\/span>, You will hear my voice;  In the morning I will order my prayer to You and eagerly watch<\/b>. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Acts 2:42,44-46: <\/span><\/i><\/b> 42<\/sup>They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching<\/b> and to fellowship<\/b>, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. . . . <\/b>44<\/sup>And all those who had believed were together<\/b>, and had all things in common; 45<\/sup>and they began selling their property and possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need.  46<\/sup>Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together<\/b> with gladness and sincerity of heart. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
